The Cubs Need to Embrace The Curse

So the Chicago Cubs were swept out of the playoffs. Clearly, this is a set of men who do not deserve devotion. Anyone who is a die-hard Cubs fan has to really look at themselves and ask why they continue to give their hearts to people who have none. Especially in a city that experienced the Bulls of the 90s.

I’d like to hear at least one Chicago Cub say something like this:

“This ball club is the permanent home of utter losers. We’re obviously cursed. Our players completely lose their heart in the face of adversity, and I think it’s related to the weight of collective history. Well I say ‘fuck the curse, fuck the losers who came before me, and fuck this entire city for coddling to and apologizing for those losers’. I want to win a championship, and the only way to do that is to acknowledge the truth and then behave honorably. Any player who wants to come with me, let’s go. Anyone who wants to act like we’re not cursed, fuck you — you’re not welcome here.”

Derek Lee would be a natural player to say this. Instead, he utters mealy-mouth bullshit:

“No question, there’s a larger weight in Chicago,” Lee said after the Cubs were swept from the playoffs for the second year in a row. “I hate to call it pressure, because it’s hard to put more pressure on us than we put on ourselves. But you can feel it in the city. They want it bad. It’s understandable. But it’s all about how you perform on the field.”
