In July 2006, I visited John Solimine in his basement wonder-poster studio. John's Spike Press is one of the most kick-ass outfits in Chicago, the city that kicks the most ass of the custom poster world.
He was making a poster for Flatstock 2006– a gorilla sitting in a booth selling his custom posters. Every poster has a banana in it. Poster makers can be a little obsessed.
The cool thing about this photo set is that it documents a place and a process that John doesn't use anymore. He now shares space with another poster outfit in East Garfield Park.
See the entire set here. All hail John Solimine of Spike Press.
