My Subscriptions > Nial Kennedy’s Weblog

Mybloglines_1
So I thought I’d try something new. I’ve never done the typical blogging thing– "I saw this thing, here’s a link, here’s what I think about".

The other thing is that I currently have SubscriptionBloat in my Bloglines account with 125 feeds. I care about maybe 1/2 of them.

So what I’m going to do is go through day by day, look at the first entry in my list (sorted by most recently updated), and decide that (if I were the type of person who blogged about links) I would actually blog about the site.

If I wouldn’t, I’ll unsubscribe. If I would, I’ll write a post about. Here’s the first:

Niall Kennedy’s Weblog

This is a really useful site by a guy who seems to be on the inside at the intersection of RSS, search, and online collaboration. He’s working on live.com, which surprisingly kicks butt. He’s interested in the current fight over web standards but never seems to get too worked up about it.

Here’s some things I’ve recently learned from him lately:

  • Microsoft is hip to online Office (I’ve been a huge fan of live.com, but I didn’t know they were directly moving to move their Office suite there, too). The dominant tech media story has Google with the only innovator and Microsoft as the silly Goliath. Not true.
  • Feed syndication formats make for mighty good reading.
  • He was where I found out about the AdSense API

Downside: He’s into soccer, but he’s first-generation Irish, so that makes it easier to understand.

All hail Niall Kennedy!
