The Scratchy Blue Dusk of Late-Winter Lincoln Marsh

I was traveling back from Champaign and going to Winfield to be with the kids on Christian’s birthday, week before last. The traffic wasn’t bad at all, and I was zooming past Lincoln Marsh before I realized it was dusk with a light snow— a perfect time to capture the place in a different mood, maybe. Ends up I was right.

The freeze/ thaw/ freeze pattern of late January made for crackly thin ice on the pond:
