Shawn-Laree and I went to Wellfleet on Cape Cod to spend some time with friends. We went for a walk at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, which is maintained by the Massachusetts Audubon Society. I love taking nature pictures, and this place had so many different habitats. It was a great day. Here's the complete set. Some thoughts:
- Here's a map of the place to get your bearings
- I love the Bugs Bunny episode when he and Daffy Duck are arguing over what hunting season it is. Daffy goes completely insane and says, "Shoot me again! I enjoy it! I love the smell of burnt feathers, and gunpowder, and cordite. I'm an elk!! Shoot me, go on!! It's elk season!! I'm a fiddler crab!!! Why don't you shoot me??? It's fiddler crab season!!!" and runs around on the ground like a fiddler crab
- Salt marshes are cool. I always like the indeterminate wetness of it all. It's land that acts like water. A permanent in-between time
- Some of them looked like green moonscapes. They installed a boardwalk over it to allow people to get to Hatches Creek. This boardwalk serves as a Fiddler Crab Viewing Station, where they conduct aggressive one-armed lives
- Some of the vistas there are postcard-worthy, including this cliche lily pad shot
- Here's an elaborate greenhead fly killer
- We saw some wild cranberries and a mound built from an unknown creature
