Here’s another press release from the friendly hammer-slammers at the Chicago Department of Public Health. They note that North Beach bills itself as an adult playground, but parents on Chicago’s North Side will also recognize it as the beer-soaked, institutional soap-soaked venue for dozens of children birthday parties. As Tony Montana said, "I never like him".
North Beach Night Club Shut By City Health Department Rodent, Insect Infestation Unacceptable
A North Side night club/recreational facility was ordered closed today after Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) inspectors discovered critical violations of the City Health Code.
North Beach, 1551 N. Sheffield, (www.northbeachclub.com) was shut down after CDPH inspectors discovered rat feces and live fruit flies on the premises.
The business, which bills itself as an indoor adult playground, also was cited for inadequate plumbing (hot running water was not available in some of the bathrooms) and exit doors with gaps large enough to allow access to rodents and insects.
The business will remain closed until its management has taken corrective action and passed re-inspection.
The enforcement action was the 48th time in 2008 that Health Department inspectors have shut a food establishment for health violations.
Representatives of North Beach will have to explain themselves at an administrative hearing on May 29 and pay a fine expected to total $500.
Chicagoans who believe that a restaurant or other food establishment is operating in an unsafe manner are encouraged to dial 311 and report it.
