The University of Chicago Press has a couple new books that are of interest to Iraq-based soldiers: Instructions for American Servicemen in Iraq during World War II and The U.S. Army/Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Field Manual.
The World War II book reminded me of a book I found in the stacks when I was a student at UIC: the Chicago Daily News War Book for Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines. Stunning insights into what’s important when you’re trying to kill people.
I took the two back pages and made a found poem out of it for my second book, Memo To All Employees, called "A Bit of the German Language". Complete text here— pages from the book are below.
