South Boston drivers are being advised that the intersection of F and West Sixth Streets is to become an all-way stop location. To improve safety for both vehicles and pedestrians, two new Stop signs will soon be posted on F Street at the approach to the intersection to supplement the existing Stop signs on West Sixth Street.
Boston Transportation Commissioner Thomas J. Tinlin said that the decision to post the new signs was made in cooperation with local residents concerned about safety at this busy intersection.
"I am pleased to have this opportunity to work with neighborhood residents to review traffic safety issues at the intersection of F and West Sixth Streets," said Commissioner Tinlin. "Upon inspection, BTD Traffic Engineers determined that drivers traveling on F Street at the approach to West Sixth Street encounter a sight distance problem. This is of particular concern considering the large number of children walking to and from the South Boston Boys and Girls Club located on West Sixth Street. I expect that the additional signs will work to rectify the problem."
Drivers are reminded that the speed limit in Boston is 30 mph, unless otherwise posted. The Boston Police Department will be notified of this traffic regulation change and will be monitoring this location.
