Two Restaurants
Shut By City Health Department
Health Code Violations Will Not Be Tolerated
Two restaurants remain closed today after being shut down Tuesday afternoon by inspectors from the Chicago Department of Public Health (CPDH).
Lalo’s, 1960 N. Clybourn, was shut down after CDPH inspectors discovered non-compliance with an August 31 order to eliminate a fruit fly infestation.
Artemio’s Tacos, 4918 W. Irving Park, was ordered closed after CDPH inspectors discovered the restaurant operating without hot water. Additionally, the restaurant was cited for mouse feces in a non-food storage area.
The enforcement actions were the 145th and 146th times in 2009 that Health Department inspectors have shut a food establishment for Health Code violations.
Representatives of both restaurants are scheduled to attend administrative hearings in October and pay fines expected to total $500 (Lalo’s) and $750 (Artemio’s).
Chicagoans who believe that a restaurant or other food establishment is operating in an unsafe manner are encouraged to dial 311 and report it.
