Current Book Projects, March 2018

I have been down-low working on a number of book projects, and I want to list them here, if for no other reason than it will force me to work on them harder.

Recovery / Hospice: A Memoir

This is a chronological account of my mother’s death, covering the 8 weeks from when she fell while taking out the garbage in an icy Chicago alley, through hospital,  rehabilitation, then hospice. It’s a very typical affair, in terms of the American healthcare system. The book is part tic-toc of medical care and part view into the kinds of supports that are needed when a family members falls into decline.

Yahoo2002

A series of annotated chatlogs from the early 2000s on Yahoo! Chat— long after the glory days of chat rooms but just before the explosion of the social web. Each chapter has an introduction with details of the interaction and is followed by copy/pasted logs. True tech archaeology.

Fatherhood Memoir

This is an undefined family memoir of a divorced father of two living a city/ suburban life. Material pulled from my Family Journals. I am currently on #27, an unbroken narrative since 1997. May end up being more focused on Catholicism/ melded into the CCD book.

How to Teach CCD

A religious memoir that combines my personal history in 2000s, covering my divorce and how I navigated the Catholic Church as a member, a catechist, a school board president, and a member of a pastoral council, in two churches in the Chicago and Joliet archdiocese.

Here’s a form I completed today.
