Here's a set of photos I took at the DuPage County Fair last month. After spending time on a real farm this summer, and seeing where people prepare cattle for showing at a real county fair, I was curious to see what a county fair in a Chicago collar county looked like.
The answer is that looks a lot like a traveling carnival, with hand-painted rides and impossible-to-win games of skill. There were vestiges of fairs past, to be sure– tractors, chickens, and good-looking pigs. The chainsaw sculptor was a highlight. We had a blast.
