GoogObits is a long-term project of mine where I used my hypertext enjambment ideas to augment and infuse obituaries with additional context and meaning. See all Googbits posts here.
I started the project in October 2002 with my first weblog, hosted on Salon Blogs, which were powered by the Radio UserLand platform. I learned the power of content syndication during this time.
I retrieved all of these posts from Archive.org in March 2023, adding yet another layer of derivative work and allowing me to present the posts in the proximate manner in which I composed them. See all 63 of those posts here.
In November 2003 I decided to move off Salon Blogs and over to a dedicated URL using the TypePad blogging platform. I completed another 45 full hypertext enjambment posts, actively maintaing the site through January 2005.
Nearly all of these posts are fully annotated from start to finish. By June 2004 I pulled back a bit, selectively annotating last paragaphs (Ronald Reagan) and other excerpts. I like to find patterns in life and death.
I often wrote a few framing words or full-blown original essays along with annotations for the obituaries. 29 posts have fragments of the Yahoo Y!Q experiment in contextual search.
