Jitlada and Rosati Clipped

Here’s numbers 67 and 68 from our friendly neighborhood health department:

Two Restaurants Shut By City Health Department Health Code Violations Will Not Be Tolerated

Two restaurants—one north and one northwest—were ordered closed today after Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) inspectors discovered critical violations of the City Health Code.

Jitlada Thai House, 3715 N. Halsted, was shut down after Health Department inspectors discovered live cockroaches in the kitchen, as well as food that had been compromised by the insects.

Rosati’s Pizza, 5544 N. Milwaukee, was shut down after CDPH inspectors found wastewater backing up from a floor drain under a three-compartment sink in the kitchen.

The Health Department visit to Jitlada Thai House was triggered by a customer who called 311 to complain of finding a cockroach in a plate of food. The visit to Rosati’s was a routine, unannounced inspection.

The enforcement actions were the 67th and 68th times in 2008 that Health Department inspectors have shut a food establishment for violations of the Chicago Health Code.

Representatives of both restaurants will have to explain themselves administrative hearings on June 12 and pay fines expected to total $1,000 (Jitlada) and $500 (Rosati’s).

Chicagoans who believe that a restaurant or other food establishment is operating in an unsafe manner are encouraged to dial 311 and report it.
