Kayakers in Tilt-Shift

A couple of weeks ago, I was out and about on my bike and camera, looking for stuff to shoot. I was going over the Chicago River, and I spied a kayak outing. I took some pics and was pretty happy with it. Then I got back on my bike and yelled “Arrgggh!”, Charlie Brown-style, because I remembered that I had my tilt-shift lens in my basket.

Here in the Chicago onion field flatlands, there are precious few opportunities to us the shift to get that cool miniature effect with the lens. So I was bummed. The other night, I had some time before meeting friends for dinner, and went back over the Chicago bridge, hoping for lightning to strike twice. No luck.  Muffed around, biked up north, and went west on Division.

Boom. Off in the distance, a fleet of kayakers.

It took me a while to even determine if they were coming toward me. They were. I took pictures. I apologize for the abundance of basically the same shot. I deleted a lot but honestly couldn’t pare it down any further. Motion wins.
