Some of the big fin-filled, traffic-affecting events for the weekend in NYC are the Captive Nations Parade, the Motion Picture Club of America
Festival, and the Juan Pablo Duarte Festival. Complete details below.
New Jersey-bound lanes of the Holland Tunnel will be completely closed
to traffic from 1:00 am to 8:00 am Saturday and Sunday for repaving.
The project is weather sensitive and closures may be cancelled due to
inclement weather.
The Third Street Bridge over the Gowanus Canal will be closed to
pedestrian and vehicular traffic but will be open to navigation traffic
on Saturday, July 18 and Saturday, July 25 from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm.
NYCDOT will perform repair work to replace navigation conduits, lights,
and deck grating on the bridge. Recommended detours for vehicles: Third
Avenue to Ninth Street Bridge to Smith Street to return to Third
Street. For pedestrians: Third Avenue to Carroll Street Bridge to Bond
Street to return to Third Street.
Stone Street between Coenties Alley and William Street in Manhattan
will be closed from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm through November 30 for a
pedestrian mall.
Mulberry Street between Canal and Broome Streets and Hester Street
between Mott and Mulberry Streets in Manhattan will be closed Friday
through Sunday until September 1 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm for a
pedestrian mall.
5th Avenue from 48th Street to 52nd Street in Brooklyn will be closed
on Sundays through August 2 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm for Sunset Park
BID Street Festival.
Knickerbocker Avenue from Suydam Street to Starr Street in Brooklyn
will be closed on Sundays through August 2 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm for
Sunday Scene on Knickerbocker.
Sands Street between Gold Street and Jay Street in Brooklyn will be
closed westbound from Gold Street toward Jay Street from 9:00 pm Friday
to 5:00 am Saturday and eastbound (including Brooklyn Queens Expressway
entrances) from 12:01 am to 5:00 am Saturday to facilitate roadway
paving by the Department of Design and Construction. Rain date is
Saturday night to Sunday.
The following streets will be closed on Saturday:
– Lexington Avenue between 42nd and 57th Streets in Manhattan will be
closed from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm for the East Side Rezoning Alliance
Street Fair.
The following streets will be closed on Sunday:
– 5th Avenue from 54th Street to 72nd Street and 59th Street between
5th and 6th Avenues in Manhattan will be closed from 11:00 am to 5:00
pm for the Captive Nations Parade.
– Broadway between 47th and 57th Streets in Manhattan will be closed
from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm for the Motion Picture Club of America
Festival.
– St. Nicholas Avenue between 181st and 191st Streets in Manhattan will
be closed from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm for the Juan Pablo Duarte Festival.
The times listed for closures for street fairs are for the actual times
of the street fairs themselves. The streets may be closed longer to
allow for set-up and breakdown. Street fair organizers are generally
permitted to begin set-up at 8:00 am and breakdown must be completed by
7:00 pm.
