So anyway I obviously love The Sopranos and was blown away last week by the ending. At first I felt a bit pissed that I didn’t get something more crisp, more knowing, but got over it quickly enough. Basically, it seems to me the clock ran out–our peering into a family had ended. If it felt abrupt, that’s pretty much the way all clocks work.
That’s what i do with car music, my series of videos taken from my car while driving. I make each video exactly one minute, no more and no less. It’s meant to be a one-minute documentary of what I’m hearing along with what I’m seeing. Sometimes it works really well– like when the windshield wipers keeps the beat with a Midnight Oil song or when swirling expressway snow sways to “Who’s That Lady” and the song ends as a car crosses over into my lane. I like these uncontrollable moments that I curate.
So here’s one from last week, one of my favorites: Car Music: Do You Believe in Life After Love/ Freight Train. A Cher song coupled with a stop at a railroad crossing in Wheaton, IL. It’s got all the components: cheesy song, slice-of-my-life juxtaposition, and motion to the music. Love it.
