I love the work of Steve Walters. When they write the books about the (continuing) silkscreen poster movement in Chicago, he is Chapter 1 in all of them.
I have three pieces of his that riff on the same big fat theme of Richard J. Daley’s face. They are special to me for a couple of reasons:
- They are variations on a theme. Variation in the context of machined (no pun intended) sameness is a foundation for a lot of what I try to do as an artist (see North Park Nature Center Panoramas and Wide Right Turn)
- I have three of them, so I can see them all lined up
- There’s no band advertised on them. Pure art
- They tweak Daley
All hail Steve W.
