It’s easy for people (like me) who have always disliked our current President to be gleeful at the current news that he has a a 31% approval rating. To me, though, it points out a gaping need for 20% of us to take action and make amends for a mistake made nearly 2 years ago. And unless they’re willing to do so, we’ll be no better off after the midterm elections or in 2008.
Bottom line is that there is nothing new about our condition today that wasn’t openly visible in October 2004. George Bush had us in a bad situation in Iraq for no good reason then, and things are worse now. George Bush was interested in increasing profits for his Oil friends then, and we’re paying more for that now. George Bush gave tax breaks to the rich then, and the middle class and working poor are still paying for that now. George Bush failed to make Usama bin Laden pay for killing us & knocking our buildings down then, and UBL is still free to plot against us now.
George Bush got 51% of the vote on election day 2004. To the millions of people who voted for him then and are displeased with him now, I urge you to be honest with yourselves. You made a mistake. It’s OK; everyone makes mistakes. But we cannot move on from here unless you look at yourself in your bathroom mirror this morning and resolve not to be fooled again.
