Upon First Seeing Filming of a Reality TV Show

  • I was in Midway Airport last night traveling to Raleigh, NC on Southwest Airline
  • Granada Films is shooting a show called “Airline
  • It is based on the doings of Southwest Airlines at Midway and is to be shown on A&E
  • I saw a sign of waiver to that effect at the airport– a blanket statement stating that my presence in the airport– presence that I paid for– indicates permission to be filmed and that I had to actively seek out a producer and tell them specifically that I did not want to be filmed if that were the case
  • Soon a New Jersey resident/ drunk person is at the center of a cameraman, a boom guy, and three producers.

Facts as follows:

  • On a layover from Oklahoma to New Jersey
  • Spent an hour and a half drinking at airport bar
  • Attempted, in his own words, to “pick up a Spanish girl”
  • Gets reported as an obnoxious drunk
  • Gets thrown off flight w/ no recourse
  • Becomes agitated & filmed in a charming, drunk way

Quotes/ themes:

  • $1.5 million “job” he will lose should he fail to get back to Jersey
  • Will sue, will “call my lawyer”
  • Sorry that he “looks intimidating”, he says, in a “woe-is-me” way
  • Balks, then signs waiver for A&E producer types
  • His appeal to agents failed– no flight, no hotel, no help, SOL
  • Gives A&E an “exclusive” post-appeal rant in which he suggests that non-citizens of the United States be “put on planes” and sent back to country of origin, which is ironically the treatment he cannot even get from Southwest to take him back to Jersey
